In Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs volume 1, Kogarashi found himself a place to live. This place was haunted by a ghost and has girls who are either demons or ninjas living in the boarding house. In volume 2 of Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs, this is the “Let’s get to know the residents portion!”
This somehow involves Kogarashi tapping into the spirit of an aspiring chef to cook food, him helping Sagiri capture a yokai that melts clothes of anyone in a relationship, and finding out why taking pictures of Yuuna might be a lost cause…unless Chisaki has something to do about that!
…Oh, and did I forget to mention he manages to transform into body soap? Yeah, just to let you know, he’s turned into body soap, and is essentially left to die in the bath…as a bottle of soap.
So yes, more incredulous events happen to the psychic protagonist in Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs volume 2. From him also tapping into the power of spirits to help him out of jams (like helping Nonko draw her manga by channeling an aspiring manga artist) to him trying to figure out why Yaya is following him everywhere, there’s a lot that happens in this one. But it’s mostly just wacky escapades, and there’s no real connecting storyline. However, that changes towards the end, when a spirit known as the Black Ryuujin and his servant Oboro happen to meet Yuuna. In need of a girl with spiritual powers to marry, he and Oboro capture her, which leads to Kogarashi and Sagiri finding out and needing to rescue her. Somehow!
In some cases sweet (and some just meh), this volume is mostly not focused on finding out Yuuna’s past. To make up for that, we get pretty lewd chapters which explore the pasts and personalities of the characters. In some cases, that works (have to admit, Koyuzu turning Kogarashi into body soap was hilarious) and in others, not really (couldn’t care at all about Yaya’s story). The only part that’s an arc is towards the end, which not only adds another new member to the boarding house (somehow?) but also might have revealed Kogarashi is actually really strong for some reason?
In that case, it makes you wonder more about how he was trained and why specifically he’s been hiding it. But I can’t imagine this series being all that complex. The manga will likely go over that in more detail at some point. Whether I will care, we will have to see, because I think how it was brought up here will do. Meanwhile, the boarding house now has a new member, so we’ll see how they manage to handle that as the series continues. I would like to get a few more snippets as to why Yuuna can’t move on, but we’ll have to see next time…
