The Ten Guardians thought they had it all together to do their agenda meeting. They have so much work to do in restoring the demon castle. Too bad for them, they have to face their greatest challenge: Princess Syalis telling them that the two cutest demons in this series, Teddy Bear and Eggplant Seal, are having a tiff. This fight is so bad the two aren’t even in speaking terms, they’re on crying and saddened terms! Believe it or not, these two adorable demons not getting along is a major crisis! What do the Ten Guardians attempt to do to resolve the situation?!?
Well, they make attempts to ignore it, but behind the two demons’ heartwarming actions they all melt like pudding and soon decide they have to get to the bottom of this.
The bottom is extremely simple, and extremely touching.
Volume 19 of Princess Syalis continuing to never seem like a hostage to these demons could not have begun with a much more incredible chapter. There was no way the rest of the volume would end up having a chapter to top it — well, Kagiji Kumanomata cooked up two chapters that could at least compete! The first one involves mysteriously unlicensed body pillows being spread around the demon castle. One of them is of Syalis, and if they’re like your typical anime body pillows, they must definitely not let her see it! But for someone who sleeps on the regular, you know nothing’s going to stop Syalis from finding out.
So naturally, it’s not actually as bad as you’d think, but the after-effects involve her stealing all the body pillows of various demons and the jokes fly far and fast, enough for Demon Cleric — who also has a pillow with his body on it — to take untold amounts of mental damage.
The other chapter involves an incubus — not exactly a common demon since the standard is generally a succubus, but Bussy’s older brother Cubie has finally arrived at the demon castle. The problem is he apparently looks like Syalis’ dad…and this awakens “Work Mode” for her. As in, despite not actually being her dad, Cubie looking like him brings forth guilt over sleeping and lazying it up when she’s a hostage, and now she’s feels like she has to work for untold hours efficiently and promptly. Can you believe we’ve spent 18 and 3/4 volumes of this series and this is the first mention of her dad???
So you can imagine Demon King Twilight and the rest of the demons being utterly in shock over her new persona. Then imagine when they thought all the work would tire her out. They soon find out she can’t sleep because she still wants to work! And you thought Teddy Demon and Eggplant Seal fighting was the biggest crisis in this volume!
The only reason those two fighting in the first chapter edges those other stories is because it did take only one chapter while the other two continued on. But those three are more than enough to make this a glorious volume of Sleepy Princess — so having Syalis enter “Tiger Mom” mode after she discovers one of the Teddy Bears seems different (that Teddy Bear got lost and met her mortal enemy Dawner the hero and his crew, got real inspired) and the former Demon King and Syalis engaging in a game of tag at one point, amongst a few other stories, makes this a terrific volume in this series.
