Sekirei Volume 3

Time to leave this place! Well, that’s at least what Shigi & Kuno want to do, and Minato’s looking to help them escape Teito. The problem is he’s gonna be down Tsukiumi, who’s still trying to accept being winged by him, so he’ll make do with himself, Musubi, and a few diversions (looks at Ku). Can he manage to elude security and get them out of Teito?

Well, not easily, since Disciplinary Squad members Benitsubasa and Haihane were tracking him (towards the end of volume 2), and now Minato’s team — composed of a human, a sekirei, and a sekirei who doesn’t use her powers — is in some trouble. So much trouble that an unexpected guest appears that simultaneously reveals a new side to Musubi, and also creates more questions — how exactly will Minato react to this revelation?

The first half of this volume of Sekirei is all action, girls fighting mostly naked, and some of the wackiest stuff possible. The second half brings more setups for future events, Kagari’s state of mind, and the revelation that Phase 3 is starting…yet only Musubi knows this…and finally shares this info to people (in the bath I should add). How will this revelation, alongside Minaka’s announcement, affect the crew moving forward? We’ll have to find out in the next volume!

But outside of that, the second half consists of wind-based sekirei Kazehana wearing only an apron to impress Minato, the girls in the bath, and maybe a couple pages of Yukari and Shiina actually fighting. Will Minato soon learn his sister is part of this event? Who knows! But you can bet there will be more nudity and Minato trying to handle all of this.

There also will be some good action, as this volume did have it. Doesn’t matter if you’re human or sekirei — you get involved, you’re gonna get lit up. This part leads to revealing something interesting about Musubi, and it makes you wonder more about her origin as she fights the Disciplinary Squad. One of my worries for this series was the fights, as volume 1 didn’t really feature it too well. But so far it has gotten better due to the characters and how it’s choreographed, so I genuinely look forward to most fights in this manga.

Outside of the main story, can’t not bring up where Kagari is at right now. Considering himself a he, Kagari soon discovers that might not be the case and is struggling to figure out what he is. Will Minato be the one to help him find out for good? Well, Kagari’s not pleased at this and is trying to do everything to not find out. I do hope this gets solved soon, and it looks like we’ll have an answer based on how volume 3 ended.

Sekirei volume 3 still manages to maintain its humor and definitely maintains having the girls be drawn well, and it provide questions that I wonder can be answered. Still features many of the same harem trappings so this won’t be recommended for those who don’t like it. But it does manage to stay interesting with its few changeups, and this is a harem that continues to stand above the rest.
