For reasons she can’t completely explain, high school student Yu likes the cool and seemingly mysterious transfer student, Koizumi, and wants to get to know her better.
She soon enough learns that one way (or in some cases, learns it’s not the way!) is through enjoying some ramen.
Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles is one manga where you can tell the creator really enjoys showing why a certain thing is awesome — in this case, it’s ramen! After watching it in anime form, you also got that sense too, alongside me just wanting to make eating different types of ramen a habit in my life.
But now it’s in manga form, and the results are about the same. It’s likely not going to be the manga to reinvent your thinking that cute girls doing a specific thing can be super entertaining, especially if food manga isn’t your thing.
But for a first volume it does enough to leave you wanting a bit more.
While we are introduced to Koizumi and her knowledge of ramen, we are also introduced to Misa and Jun, who each make a certain breakthrough with Koizumi thanks to simply going to a place and either eating the spiciest or the oddest sounding ramen there is. Meanwhile, Yu only manages to get more distant from Koizumi despite her every attempt at trying to know her (so yes, stalking is bad) — until a chance event leads to Yu actually making some ramen for her.
Like I said, this is wholly centered on one thing: ramen. So the big draw would be not only the different types you can eat, but even how it’s made. Even not being discerning of what type of ramen is being eaten (instant for example) can make a difference. So can the art, which is somewhat in the realm of Food Wars, but the manga mostly shows these four girls enjoying the taste of these noodles.
Between that and the length of these chapters, you’ll find yourself likely finishing Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles in quick fashion. There’s also a chance you’ll find yourself wanting to eat more ramen, so it’s totally recommended you have something to eat before reading this. But that’s only if you’re looking for a nice, relaxing manga involving cute girls about to eat a ton of ramen for a good while.
