Monster Tamer Girls Volume 2

In the final volume of Monster Tamer Girls, Ion, Sora, Tsukiko, and Kotomi have a problem. A big problem. A problem that happens to be bigger than the school they go to. However, there’s one way they’ll be able to solve it, but this may involve a ghost…?

In addition to that story, which takes up most of Monster Tamer Girls volume 2, we delve into Sora’s past and her involvement in the time where monsters were threats to society. We also deal with someone who was a director in the military, and we even have a story with Kotomi managing to make friends with a rabbit…in a hole. As you can tell from these stories, this manga could not get any more laid-back. Whether the monsters look intimidating or cute, you’re not gonna get anything serious. The most serious moment in Monster Tamer Girls has been that there was a conflict between monsters and humans in the first place.

Now we have a situation where Tsukiko and Kotomi just casually ride on a flying dragon with ease.

This doesn’t quite mean it’s a droll to read, but it does mean your taste will vary depending on the chapter. With different stories involving different monsters, you’ll find a few that you’ll like. You may find a story where the monsters aren’t completely involved is more to your speed. For this series, that’s perfectly fine. Despite its backstory, Monster Tamer Girls just wants to tell its story involving four cute girls and monsters. And then maybe also discuss the background of fellow students and teachers.

However, I can’t help but be a little disappointed in certain aspects of what monsters appeared. I feel there could have been more to elaborate on regarding them, but the series only went so far. Like, you introduce different types of dangerous monsters, but only provide one that’s classified as high level dangerous, for example. Even the reasons why Ion’s singing ability is super important feels a bit muted when the series is this short. But, despite that, if you’ve been looking for a slice of life work that’s quaint and somewhat sweet, Monster Tamer Girls is your series. Just remember that there are monsters in this world…
