Sometimes going home isn’t all that’s cracked up to be. See: Desumi, who ends up returning to her hometown to see her family after a while…alongside Fudo Mudo. The two just so happen to run into her dad, who insists they stop by, and now the pair have to somehow navigate this particular minefield without revealing their true relationship.
The two might also have to get around the fact that they’re sleeping in one room together for the first time since they’ve been in a relationship, but them debating who sleeps on the floor and who sleeps on the bed is their first real challenge!
Love After World Domination’s fifth volume continues testing Desumi and Fudo as they continue hiding their relationship from just about everybody — though it was extremely amusing that the Magahara children already knew it was Red Gelato in their house while their dad still has no idea (Desumi’s mom, meanwhile…!). The majority of this volume again generally revolves around other characters attempting to put two and two together, none more harrowing than when Desumi accidentally sends a message in the Gekko group chat of her New Year’s date. Hilarious that she accidentally sent it, and also neat that on the day of, she was determined to do whatever it took to hide her relationship with Fudo — even if it meant facing off with her fellow Princess Series comrades.
But for all of their hiding, can it really take the appearance of a brand new character to shake things up? Well if they’re the granddaughter of the Gelato 5’s commander and have 5 million followers on Instagram, possibly! Hyoka fell for Fudo ages ago after he rescued her, and since then she’s been doing her best to better herself and be so attractive that women would be jealous of her and men would fall for her, all for Fudo. Maybe in some other story her charms could’ve worked, but Fudo’s already taken, but let’s just say she doesn’t like no as an answer, and now she’s doing everything in her power to sway him — this may include attempting to use the “It’s hot out here” excuse in the winter time, so yes, the swaying is going poorly!
That said, how this volume ends — and knowing the next volume is the last — makes it a bit disappointing that they’re going with a similar event to shake up Desumi and Fudo’s relationship when it was technically done not too long ago. Just seems too common, and since it involves a brand new character, unnecessary. Still, while we only scratched the surface of the other Gelato 5 members and so far have yet to see Gekko feel like they’ve accomplished anything publicly aside from them having an excellent work-life balance, there’s still a lot of charm in this series that I’m going to miss, especially the two main lovely dorks that still have a challenge in front of them: to reveal or to not reveal their secret relationship…
…Will it or will it not happen, or is this series gonna go out all jokes and hopes for the future? Volume 6 can’t be released soon enough for me to find out.
