It's Not My Fault TheOASG Podcast is Not Popular!

Show Notes

0:00: The episode starts with an apology since a new episode didn’t go up last week — it had to be pushed back since Helen tested positive for COVID-19. While Helen has been on the mend, Justin’s just been reading manga (Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms), light novels (Safe & Sound in the Arms of an Elite Knight) and playing Fire Emblem 7.

Pandemic News

10:00: After a lengthy delay, NieR:Automata Ver 1.1a will return and air 4 episodes July 23; Ayakashi Triangle will begin its re-broadcast July 10.

News

11:43: Classroom of the Elite Season 3, which was planned for 2023, has been delayed to Winter 2024 due to various circumstances. Kamikatsu episode 11 was supposed to air last week, but they had to delay that to this past week.

12:19: One Piece is on a month hiatus due to Eiichiro Oda needing surgery for astigmatism; Meanwhile Kaiji will go on hiatus until September as Nobuyuki Fukumoto needs to do research. Helen is worried about the type of research that could be going on!

13:13: Former SQ ENIX employer, Taisuke Sasaki, has been found guilty of insider trading and got fined a decent amount. Believe it’s not worth it to do this!

14:33: VIZ will raise their prices across the board for manga in 2024, which will end a 15-year run of it being the same set price per volume. Justin gives a few reasons why this will be happening.

16:09: A few weeks ago, dub studio Bang Zoom! announced on Twitter that long time producer Hiroe Tsukamoto passed away — from there a number of people sent their condolences and her impact on the dubbing industry, from her time at Geneon to Aniplex USA.

17:30: Since the Crunchyroll/Funimation merger, there has been many concerning things, but one that’s been seemingly hostile is the English dubbing situation. It once again is a concern following VA Laura Post taking to Twitter and explaining why she and other Tower of God VAs could not reprise — or even re-audition — for the mobile game that was just released, and it involves Crunchyroll. From her and Marin Miller announcing they won’t be working with Crunchyroll directly anymore, this is likely going to be a thing for the foreseeable future unless there’s a resolution.

  • Tomoko Tabe & KeG’s Canine Detective Chris

And they also licensed for their Ize Press imprint Jin Soye, Seureureuk Comics, & Bokyung Kong’s Finding Camellia

  • Himawari & Kirouran’s Fluffy Paradise
  • Iota AIUE & Misa Sazanami’s Third Loop: The Nameless Princess and the Cruel Emperor
  • Suzume Kirisaki & Cosmic’s I Guess This Dragon Who Lost Her Egg to Disaster Is My Mom Now

37:00: Comikey has added a couple SQ ENIX/Manga UP! Titles to their service, but recently they also added Oreco Tachibana’s Firefly Wedding manga.

37:29: Helen had to tell Justin, while he was reading truly awful scans of Keiko Suenobu’s Life, that KUMA had a panel at a foreign convention (BLushcon) and one of their shared titles was Kanna Kii’s Qualia Under the Snow, which they haven’t announced anywhere. Probably.

39:04: Brand new publisher Monogatari novels licensed Mahiro Kobayakawa & Kasumi Nagi’s A Weaver Spins a Tale of Blind Love; Azuki announced they’ve licensed TriF & Yoshino Koyoka’s Mecha-Ude: Mechanical Arms; the first two chapters will be released on Azuki July 2. This was also the part where Helen revealed to Justin that there were some location shenanigans at AnimeNEXT this year, which prompted Justin to look for what actually happened and talk about it in weird news.

40:57: Kodansha, per usual, waits a while before actually announcing their digital titles, but that’s not going to stop the digital storefronts from listing them! So two new titles will come out in July:

  • Aguri Kurita’s My Wife is a Little Intimidating (7/4)
  • Moare Ota’s Teppu (7/11)
Streaming News

43:47: A bunch of Dragon Ball Z films will be streaming on Crunchyroll, and it’s a lot of them. Justin says them all.

44:51: GKIDS will screen the Blue Giant film sometime this year.

Weird News

45:09: So for whatever reason, AnimeNEXT had two locations for the con this year, one in New Brunswick and in Edison — these are not that close to each other! Think that’s kind of wild and weird.

50:56: Uta Kawase, who plays a character in 22/7, is going on hiatus due to her being stalked near her home and workplace in June, which is pretty bad!

51:54: Justin’s pretty sure he wouldn’t to drink anyone’s spinal fluid, but G-Fuel is counting on people to drink theirs!…Thanks Attack on Titan for being popular enough to inspire this.

52:58: Not exactly weird news in general, but for Justin, Aniplex deciding to host a Rurouni Kenshin panel at AX despite the controversy and lack of enthusiasm in the US due to the creator is extremely weird, unless they’re really sure there’s enough people that’s just there to enjoy the anime. They better be real sure!

58:14: Tezuka Productions is going to celebrate Black Jack’s 50th Anniversary by creating a new story involving the character with AI!…Oh dear.

1:01:16: Have to celebrate Serial Experiments Lain by making sure NFTs are involved, even in a smaller capacity!

1:02:37: Of course a collaboration between Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear and a zoo makes sense, but if they’re letting people feed and take photos with the bears, there might be some concerns about this working!

1:04:37: The new Ghibli/Hayao Miyazaki film How Do You Live? is almost here, and all we have is the name, it’s based off a novel, and a key visual. Nothing else. Justin can’t help but feel that it’s a mistake.

1:08:00: So it’s gonna happen: Netflix will release One Piece August 31. Both hosts wonder if this is going to be well.
