News

9:55: While discussing the Vision of Escaflowne, this led to a discussion about what anime series are airing on primetime in Japan. Note: not too many, especially now that Pokemon’s been moved to a different time slot.

12:39: My Hero Academia is so popular, it’s now going to be turned into a Hollywood film. Cue all the worries about this one!

17:08: Dark Horse is partnering with a Chinese company to potentially do something like the DC and Marvel does regarding films and TV properties.

21:30: Normally Magical Sempai getting an anime wouldn’t be such a big deal…but since this a Kodansha title, then this may or may not be a sign that something (Print or simulpub release) will happen with this one.

22:49: Crunchyroll has now reached more than 2 million subscribers. That’s kind of a big deal.

Licensing news

24:39: Sol Press has announced two things:

  • They’re going to start their own VN, LN, and manga digital platform
  • They are also going to publish two LNs: Nekomata Nuko and teffish’s Why Shouldn’t a Detestable Demon Lord Fall in Love?! and Hayaken and Akita Hika’s Redefining the Meta at VRMMO Academy.

26:57: Sentai picked up Run with the Wind and Tsurune, while HIDIVE will stream Run with the Wind.

27:45: Cross Infinite World announced that they licensed a manga (Tia La Cherla) and a LN (The Cursed Princess and the Lucky Knight)

28:30: We then discuss this month’s Kodansha digital licenses, which somehow leads to a discussion on shrinkwrapped titles, and how one title was so obscure it wasn’t even up on manga updates (it is now).
