Show Notes
0:00: Justin and Helen waste ZERO time getting into the main topic…and that is the summer anime season! Though it comes many caveats. One of which involves Justin cancelling his Amazon account and Helen watching more shows than Justin…
But yes, lots of talk about what they’re watching here, including Banana Fish (and how VIZ announced they were reprinting it!) and Cells at Work!.
41:48: The two then get into just about all the huge announcements at Anime Expo, starting with J-Novel Club.
- They announced they’re going to begin printing titles, starting with their top-selling title (50,000 copies have been sold), In Another World With My Smartphone.
- They’ve licensed Amagi Brilliant Park, Kokoro Connect, Sorcerous Stabber Orphen, Gear Drive, Seirei Gensouki – Spirit Chronicles, JK Haru is a Sex Worker in Another World, Last and First Idol, and Märchen der Werwolf – The Annals of Veigh.
- They’ve teased getting into manga as well. But we’ll have to see on that one.
50:02: Maiden Japan announced the licensing of some interesting anime, like Armored Tropper Votoms and Hatakiri Man.
51:38: VIZ announced a few things at AX, including Megalobox, Smashed: A Junji Ito manga, and more JoJo.
53:30: FUNimation had a few announcements at AX, one of which apparently was in one of Michael & Janet Jackson’s videos.
54:58: Seven Seas of course licensed some titles…a decent amount: Transparent Light Blue (yuri manga), A Certain Scientific Railgun: Astral Buddy spinoff manga, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Elma’s Office Lady Diary spinoff manga, Sorcerous Stabber Orphen Heed My Call, Beast! Manga, Classmates manga (both Doukyuusei and the two-volume Sotsugyousei), Dragon Quest Monsters+ manga, Division Maneuver light novel series, Classroom of the Elite light novel series, and Mushoku Tensei light novel series.
(Editor’s note: As it turns out, Mushoku Tensei does NOT have an anime! – Justin)
56:47: Kodansha also had some announcements too, alongside Vertical: The Quintessential Quintuplets, The Seven Deadly Sins: 7 Days, Witch Hat Atelier, Yuri Is My Job!, 10 Dance, Boarding School Juliet, Edens Zero, Fairy Tail: Lightning Gods, Hiro Mashima’s Playground, Hitorijime My Hero, Love In Focus, and Gleipnir.
1:01:39: Yen Press had some announcements: Yume de Mita: Anoko no Tame ni manga (by the creator of Erased), DIVE!! Manga, Monster Wrestling manga, Tomihiko Morimi’s Penguin Highway and The Night is Young, Walk on Girl girl novels, Mamoru Hosoda’s Mirai novel, Asato Asato’s 86 novels, Nyankees manga, Suu Minazuki’s Plunderer manga, Kakegurui Twins manga, Happy Sugar Life manga, Bungo Stray Dogs novels, Author Wanwan Majin and artist Kochimo’s Woof Woof Story novels.
1:06:49: Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju is getting a live-action TV series. Justin is, not surprisingly, afraid.
1:07:30: Hiroshi Kajiyama, a long-time video game designer who worked on Shining Force and Golden Sun, passed away.
1:08:34: Finally for news, Justin talks about NYCC teaming up with Anime Expo for an Anime Fest. Justin can’t actually believe it. And isn’t happy about it.
1:14:12: Justin and Helen finally end the podcast on some weird news…such as Bakugo finding a home on the moon and Shinpachi…wearing contacts?!?!?
