0:00: Helen and Justin chat about what they’ve individually been up to. For example, Helen talks about her experience with Miss Modern. Justin decided to talk about E3, and some of the stuff that was announced.
10:49: Pop Team Epic is gonna be on Toonami! …Which gets Helen to theorize that this could be someone’s first anime actually.
12:49: Bee and Puppycat’s getting a second season, but the backstory behind it is kinda interesting.
15:14: If you’ve been following the Silver Spoon manga, you probably already know the manga’s back on hiatus again, unfortunately, so the two chat about that.
18:29: Viz didn’t bring back Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido Arc for their WSJ. We can only hope it stays that way.
20:00: Continuing with discussing Viz, they told ANN they no longer have the rights to Hiroyuki Takei’s Shaman King (or Ultimo actually). Here’s an article that essentially summaries what rights Kodansha has to that series now, unlike how Justin elaborated on it.
23:23: Yeah, Rose of Versailles’ license expired, so the two discuss all of that.
25:29: We finally discuss what exactly is happening with DMI, which continues to stick around. Krystallina has continued to follow them, but Justin and Helen give their take on the situation.
33:38: AND another manga magazine bites the dust…maybe. The company does say it’s suspended for now.
36:20: Now the big topic of this week’s podcast! Last time the two talked about the issue involving New Life+, which got an anime and revealed the author’s racist tweets. Since then, the following happened:
- The voice actors (the leads) left.
- Once that happened, the anime definitely couldn’t continue. So it was cancelled.
- The LN shipments in Japan have beenĀ halted by Hobby Japan until further notice.
- The international English publisher, J-Novel Club, will suspend sales and publication of the LN after July 1.
(Justin’s note: All of that except the J-Novel Club announcement happened within a 24-36 hour window!)
This also led to comments from various creators in the industry, but there’s a reason the title of this week’s podcast is named as such, and it involves that Yamakan guy again. But in general, the two discuss how this ultimately reflects on the author in the end.
49:30: The podcast ends on a weird note. It involves someone bringing their waifu up to the stage on their graduation day, and some Pop Team Epic shenanigans. This eventually leads to Justin and Helen fighting about how great/bad celery is after the podcast.
