Show Notes
00:00: Helen and Justin begin as usual by chatting about what they’ve been up to. For Justin, it involves solidifying his spring shows. For Helen, it involves Okabe.
16:16: After a long talk on anime, we get to the news! There was a bit of issue with communicating the illustrations for the upcoming Boogiepop anime, which ultimately led to Kadokawa apologizing to the artist for the novel.
19:23: Glass Mask is supposedly going to continue to its finale, though the magazine it’s serialized in is ending. Helen’s wondering if this will ever end…
21:06: Now that it’s June, it’s time for Kodansha’s latest digital announcements, and share Justin’s enthusiasm for each of them. This also includes discussion of Hiro Mashima’s tentatively named simulpub title, Eden’s Zero.
24:22: Crunchyroll is also taking one of Kodansha’s long running volumes and adding it as a simulpub: Kei Sasuga’s Domestic Girlfriend.
25:43: Princess Jellyfish creator is working on a new manga! Helen and Justin chat briefly about that.
27:35: We’re talking about some Jump titles!…Though Helen and Justin talk about how weird The Promised Neverland and Kimetsu No Yaiba’s situations are. TPM = NoitaminA? KnY = ufotable + Viz not adding it to their magazine?
36:18: A stage play of Negima!? has been announced, but all this does is led to its Justin lamenting the state of the Negima!? anime…
39:13: Meanwhile, J-Novel Club licensed the Mari Okada autobio. Some time later, a TV special gets announced. HMMMM…..
40:54: Some people have put two-and-two together to believe that there’s a Yuri on Ice movie in the works. This has Helen far too excited.
43:39: Kadokawa’s established a new studio, Engi, which makes the hosts wonder how this will help the industry.
45:08: Now onto the bad news of the industry, and there…there is some bad. First, another JP manga magazine is ending.
48:31: Second, Helen and Justin discuss the situation involving Pixiv’s president and a former Niji no Conquistador idol. That president, Hiroyuki Nagata, has since resigned.
50:42: Third, everyone…well, almost everyone, has been wondering about Otaku Coin and its viability. So it doesn’t help when odd restructurings occur, which seemingly happened with Tokyo Otaku Mode.
53:55: And finally, where does one begin with New Life+? Well, first, Justin and Helen talked about what they knew by the time of recording: The content of the novel was questioned by a twitter user as it was clear the novel made demeaning statements regarding China and Chinese people, which led to questions about what was officially published since there’s apparently multiple versions of it out there that say something different.
The two also discussed the author’s derogatory comments on his twitter regarding Chinese and Koreans.
Since the time of recording, this went to the author’s apology, the voice actors resigning, the cancellation of the anime, and the halt of shipments of the novel.
58:46: The only things to say is how did Helen find this, and why does it involve Pop Team Epic.
1:00:45: Hey…DJ MILKY is back! *cue look of cringe*
1:02:43: Finally, we had to end the podcast by talking about Pokemon. No, not the news regarding the company’s announcements, but the Pokemon they deprived us of catching ages ago! Look at these Beta Pokemon! Look at them!!! Game Freak, why would you do this!???
