Show Notes

0:00: Justin and Helen get together (from long distances) to discuss all the things they’ve been up to, which may or may not include reading some new (and old) J-Novel Club.

News

18:50: Monthly Bushiroad Magazine will be ending publication, which means a few manga will be moving to Comic Growl, while others will end in the last issue.

20:35: What will also move to Comic Growl is two Kore Yamazaki works! Helen gets into the somewhat strange but interesting reason Kore’s series will be going over to that magazine.

24:41: Black Clover will resume in the upcoming Jump Giga magazine on Christmas — remember, this was a series in Shonen Jump.

25:45: Meanwhile REAL will be going on hiatus until February; Blue Period will be on hiatus until Spring, likely because the author just had a baby.

26:45: Saya Aizawa is taking a hiatus from work due to her poor health, aside from only doing limited events until she improves; meanwhile Mina Kiyoi, who plays the character Kaede Nagamine in 22/7 Project, will not be continuing with the franchise because her health has only gotten worse since going on hiatus in October.

27:55: The singer-songwriter for The Birthday, Yusuke Chiba, passed away at 55; eufonius composer Hajime Kikuchi passed away at 41; and 13 Dogs manga artist Keijirō Chō passed away at 59.

Licenses

31:49: Crunchyroll Manga is no more! It died this week. So what about some of the manga that was on the service? Well eventually, at least for SQ ENIX titles, they will be on MANGA Up! if not now, in the future.

35:38: Another new series has been licensed by Titan Manga: My Name is Zero, yet another Comic Zenon title. This gives Helen some ideas on what to request…

37:52: Seven Seas will be producing two more audiobooks for their Siren imprint: The World’s Fastest Level Up, narrated by Pierce Cravens, and Neon Genesis Evangelion: ANIMA, narrated by Tiffany Grant, the English dub voice of Asuka Langley Soryu.

  • The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic (Winter 2024)
  • An Archdemon’s Dilemma – How to Love Your Elf Bride
  • Chillin’ in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers

40:05: Netflix and Nakaba Suzuki once again team up for an anime series! Though it’s a surprisingly strange one, since this was Suzuki’s work in WSJ!

44:22: Finally, the new Pokémon series will be streamed outside of Japan officially starting at the end of February. So whoever was waiting for it can now begin to make plans!

Weird News

45:47: A Crunchyroll Original is alive!…So yes, Meiji Gekken: 1874 will air in Japan this Winter (and at the time there was no news of this streaming on Crunchyroll, but it finally got announced this past week.)

47:30: Why is Boichi’s Origin and a Naruto script happening? For one of these, it requires an explanation. For the other, it requires very specific explanations since it’s not even close to a global hit?

49:20: Looking forward to parents in Japan dressing their babies as Koenma real soon, all thanks to Baby Doll.

50:42: Finally, some Eva news! Well, it’s just a collaboration event in Hideaki Anno’s hometown where the Spear of Longinus is just there for people to admire (amongst other things) and, uh, for those who purchased a motherboard from Asus, look out for the replacement program from them to change the name from “Evangenlion”.
