0:00: Justin and Helen are finally able to talk about everything they’ve been up to for the past month or so that isn’t the Spring or Summer anime season…psych! Well, for Justin at least, he checked out two more summer anime shows. Meanwhile Helen properly says what she’s been up to, which involves the Demon Slayer film and Godzilla SP.

Pandemic News

18:43: The currently still ongoing COVID-19 continues really being a problem in Japan, as now the State of Emergency will be extended to the end of this month. It’s also becoming worrisome over in the US, to the point where conventions are starting to state guidelines for their events for potential attendees.

25:23: Of course with this going on, as it turns out, we missed out on a lot on what would’ve been performed or shown at the Olympics.

Olympics

27:17: The Olympics, which has been mired in controversy, did have a number of things occur over the past month, but one Justin and Helen touch upon is involving composer Cornelius, who resigned from his role of composing music for the games after past comments of him bullying classmates and disabled people in interviews resurfaced.

31:31: Following delays of a couple anime a few weeks ago, Episodes 18 and 19 of Shaman King were delayed due to the Olympics.

News

32:14: Makino recently announced she terminated her contract with Fantasista, who backs futekiya and Manga Planet. So three of her BL doujin are no longer on futekiya, but there is one manga that still remains due to it being published from a Japanese company. Justin and Helen discuss this news.

36:10: The KADOKAWA president recently had to apologize and take a pay cut due to comments on a program that came across as pro-censorship.

39:33: Rei Hiroe revealed in a now deleted tweet he’s dealing with depression; Hiroto Wada passed away suddenly at 46 due to cerebral hemorrhage and other contributing factors.

40:40: HarperCollins has licensed for their HarperVia Imprint Tomihiko Morimi’s The Tatami Galaxy novel and sequel Tatami Time Machines Blues

43:28: Kodansha’s August digital releases have (finally) been revealed:

  • Kenkyo na Circle, Yosuke Kokuzawa, & Meru.’s I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability (8/3)
  • Yuu Saiki’s Yamaguchi-kun Isn’t So Bad (8/10)
  • Yukito Ayatsuji & Hiro Kiyohara’s The Decagon House Murders (8/17)
  • Sato Ito’s Chihiro-kun Only Has Eyes for Me (8/24)
  • Natsumi Shiba’s Mr. Bride (8/31)

They also revealed they will release a full-color deluxe hardcover edition of Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan, which will be known as The Best of Attack on Titan: In Color. They will also be interviewing the Tokyo Revengers creator Ken Wakui, and Justin and Helen debate exactly how big this news is.

48:29: BOOKWALKER and Kodansha have again partnered up to release Hideki’s She’s Adopted a High School Boy! and Soborou’s Why The Hell Are You Here, Teacher?! The A+ Full Color Lesson Book!, and it is out now; Square Enix Manga & Books licensed Yoko Taro, Takuto Aoki, Himiko & Jino’s SINoALICE & Akumi Agitogi, Rito Kohsaka & Tsukiho Tsukioka’s My Happy Marriage.

49:42: Yen Press announced the license of the following four titles:

  • Hiromu & raemz’s Chitose-kun Is in the Ramune Bottle
  • Daigo Murasaki & Kureta’s Demon Lord 2099
  • Zappon, Masahiro Ikeno, & Yasumo’s Banished from the Hero’s Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside manga
  • Mosae Nohara’s From the Red Fog

50:26: Star Fruit Books licensed zaki’s Doomsday Cleaning and Makoto Aizawa’s Transit manga while Glacier Bay Books licensed Yumi Tada’s The Mermaid and the Prince and Konomi Oumi’s From This Flame. These were announced during the companies’ Small Press Manga Twitter event.

51:15: UDON Entertainment will be releasing Riyoko Ikeda’s Rose of Versailles Episodes in late Spring 2022. Helen hopes they’ll actually come out on time.

Streaming News

52:26: Not only will Funimation screen Knights of Sidonia: Love Woven in the Stars in theaters September 13, but they’ve added the Sidonia TV series to their service this past week.

54:11: Gintama the Very Final Film will be in theaters in November; Laidbackers has been added to HIDIVE; the second half of Sgt. Frog is now up on Crunchyroll.

Weird News

55:16: The manga boom has very much been a thing for a good year, but in France, the government recently gave 18-year-olds money to spend on the Arts. Instead they spent it on manga.

56:56: Funimation is releasing a figure of a My Hero Academia character. That character is Invisible Girl. Uh…

58:01: Miley Cyrus is now an anime character!…Or is Hannah Montana? In any case, we got a collaboration that proves how mainstream anime is. Or something.

59:12: Can you deal with getting a 14-minute standing ovation? Well that’s what happened with Mamoru Hosoda at Cannes for his film Belle. Please mention in the comments if you could deal with a 14-minute standing ovation.

1:01:37: We’re finally gonna catch’em all on Netflix, as they’ll be doing a live-action Pokémon series; meanwhile we have the director for the your name. live-action leaving the project due to scheduling conflicts.

1:03:20: The Slime Demon Lord has now taken its vacation in New York for whatever reason. This definitely means Justin has to go at some point.
