0:00: Justin wanted to discuss Can Someone Please Explain What’s Going On?! being one of the catch-up titles for J-Novel Club this month (and not free as Justin mentions, you need to subscribe), but instead he and Helen dive right into what’s been going on over the past two weeks in this lengthy episode of It’s Not My Fault TheOASG Podcast Is Not Popular. It starts with COVID-19, where now an event scheduled for February is cancelled, while the much anticipated Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 is airing January 5.
News
4:44: Akira volume 1 has reached 100 printings…this series started in 1984!
5:33: Demon Slayer will join 7 other Shonen Jump series in reaching 100 million copies in circulation. That’s a lot!
6:41: Osamu Tezuka has been inducted into the Harvey Hall of Fame. The Harvey Awards was established in 1988. It’s definitely taken a while…
8:30: VTubers have been growing over the past year, and at least this year it feels like it’s definitely become a presence. The big story over the past week or so, however, revolves around two VTubers being suspended by their company after how they referenced Taiwan separately from China while mentioning viewership demographics.
12:19: Singer ELISA, in an interview with the Daily Shincho, said that she quit working for Smile Company following numerous sexual harassment from her manager and the company’s response to it. Her contract ended at the end of September.
Licenses
16:00: GKIDS (GKIDS!) — licensed Neon Genesis Evangelion — and its films Death (True)² & End of Evangelion, for a BD home video release. Huge news considering it’s been a while since you could actually own it, but Justin and Helen wonder if the type of dub they have will be a big factor in if people purchase it.
19:54: We finally…FINALLY…can say that Shaman King and its spinoffs will going to be released properly this time. After its numerous issues, stemming from how it was announced to them having to delay it just one day before it was supposed to be released, it’s now out.
21:30: In addition to that, Kodansha Comics will also have some new manga coming out digitally in November and October:

The Imprisoned Princess Dreams of Another Chance! & Kiri Komori & Yamigo’s Reincarnated as the Last of My Kind — while acknowledging the third title will be announced by Cross Infinite World, but that’ll and their fourth title will be mentioned in the next episode!
25:42: Tentai Books announced during their Twitch stream they’ve licensed Koichi Neko & Nardack’s World Teacher.
27:12: Renta! announced they are simultaneously publishing a manga version of Akudama Drive, which is airing this season.

27:39: HIDIVE added the Utano☆Princesama Magi Love Kingdom film & Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit anime to their service.
28:23: The Legendary (At least, word of mouth and the visual images are the reasons why Justin calls it such) Eiken is back officially, this time on Crunchyroll.
28:34: Retrocrush announced they will be adding the following anime this month:

Summer 2020 Anime Season Final Thoughts
32:34: Justin and Helen talk about the anime they watched the entire summer season, ranging from The God of High School to Deca-Dence to Fruits Basket Season 2. Also Justin had to shout out Ahiru no Sora finally wrapping up (this segment leads to Helen talking about her awful 5th-6th Grade soccer team). Also Helen talks about Gundam finally involving isekai into its storied universe. The two also at one point (1:05:20) get into a discussion about how the creator of Fruits Basket, Natsuki Takaya, only created this one massive hit but nothing else after that, but overall, creating a work that’s a big hit is really hard!
Weird News
1:09:38: Mitsutoshi Furuya’s Gutara Mama is ending after 45 years.
1:10:54: Heaven’s Design Team was announced to get an anime and that it would air in July 2021. Now it’s actually airing in January…Justin wonders what changed.
1:12:20: So the life-sized Gundam ended up moving over the past week, which got many people tweeting about it…this also included U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar tweeting about it too!
1:14:12: Normally, WFS and Houbunsha launching their Manga Time KIRARA Comics app would go in the regular news section. Here’s what they made available at launch:
