- Mashiro is the background girl. The one that not many people care about. I’m sure in the eroge, she was the one that no gamers really wanted to choose (as they all chose Asuka or Misaki instead). And this episode proves it. Even though this was her episode, it proved that she is someone that is of not that much significance. The captain and vice-captain of the Flying Circus team have at least some fun traits about them; Mashiro is simply a crazy kouhai who lives in an udon restaurant, has bad grades, and is now the worst Flying Circus player out of them all…even Asuka has got infinitely better than last week.
- And so aside from the fact we know that the summer tournament is like only a couple of weeks away for this hapless bunch, this week proved to be a disappointment for the show. I’m actually curious if anything, since as the preview sheet said this would be contain some drama elements, we haven’t seen any of that so far. The Science-fiction and sport genres are rife; they are, after all, the most prominent parts of this show. With this being an adaptation of an eroge, I’m very surprised that, now we’re a third of way in, no romantic elements have been drafted in either. This could well be done on purpose as, by the looks of the show, it doesn’t look like male MC Masaya is ready to get down to business with any of these girls after they win a match or something. If anything, the show has been purposely placed in the PG-13 area…the safe area for nearly all shows these days.
- But something I have noticed only now is the animation of the show. As Flying Circus operates on split-second decisions in the air, the animators thus have to produce suited material. We have seen flyers zip around the air so quickly that it is, I must confess, a bigger task for me to get clear screenshots when they’re up in the sky. Whenever I look at this, I immediately think of how another air-related show GONZO did: the first season of Strike Witches. In that, total noob Yoshika Miyafuji becomes total prodigy in an alternate world……not unlike what we’re seeing here. I mean it’s been only a couple of episodes when we were seeing Asuka flying around in the air badly. And now? She can keep up with the best player in the club…all of this learning having taken place in only a week or two. Asuka might well be the so-called total prodigy of the show, but we’ve still got to wait for other episodes. The episode for Misaki and how she got so good, and the one for Masaya and why he quit playing, although I’m sure the second half of the show will purely be for the summer tournament itself. I mean, we’re ready introduced to another mystery character. Having done my research, this one will be from another school.
- I mean look how cool, calm and collected she is when she reads a message from Asuka’s mom demanding why she isn’t home yet?
- As I say, I don’t think we’ll get into the juicy action until the second half of the show; these upcoming remaining episodes will no doubt be fillers detailing us about how this merry lot are striving to be the great Flying Circus team they think they are. I notice that all of them seem to be oozing with optimism, especially at the end of this episode when they all see how well Mashiro improved in a matter of days…the only one who isn’t showing their real colors is Masaya. This is no doubt his own choice; whatever happened to him to make him stop is something he doesn’t want to talk about, and right now it seems to reflect in his rather emotionless mood in this show.
- This was twin-tails’ show, and I have absolutely no clue what to expect next week. The episode titles they give out are just too cryptic. “Meat Makes Me Happy!” was this week, and next week will be “Yeah. Keep Calm and Carry On.” Your guess is as good as mine.
